History[]
Season 1[]
Pilot[]
After Clark moved to Metropolis to begin a new life, Jonathan seemed deeply concerned for his son. While Clark slept in a dilapidated room at the Hotel Apollo and called his parents, Jonathan offered to send him some money, but Clark declined; Jonathan did it anyway, and Clark promised he would eventually pay him back. Jonathan was terrified when Clark mentioned that he had saved a bus and its passengers in Metropolis. He believed that if his son’s origins were discovered, Clark would be taken to a laboratory and “dissected like a frog.” During this phone call, During this phone call, his relationship with Martha seemed a bit tense; he complained that his wife hadn’t cooked any home-cooked meals for a while. Shortly after, Clark paid a visit to Jonathan and Martha at their farm.
The Green, Green Glow of Home[]
Jonathan is a friend of Wayne Irig. One stormy night, Wayne paid him a late visit to entrust him with a green rock he had found in his meadow. This rock was coveted by the authorities, especially by Jason Trask, who saw it as a highly valuable weapon in his crusade to destroy Superman. Worried and puzzled, Jonathan showed the strange green meteor to his son, Clark. However, Clark collapsed after coming into contact with it. Sick for the first time in his life, he seemed highly weakened by the green rock, which turned out to be from his home planet, Krypton. Later, Wayne, Jonathan, and Martha were tied up by Jason Trask, who attempted to burn them along with their barn.
The Ides of Metropolis[]
After discovering a painting of Martha in the nude, Jonathan began to suspect that she was having an affair with an artist. Due to the growing tension in his relationship with Martha, he decided to visit his son Clark in Metropolis. Clark wanted to help his father feel better, so they went to work out at the gym to help Jonathan regain confidence. Martha traveled to Metropolis and reassured Jonathan that she was not having an affair, explaining that she was simply meeting new people and developing new interests. In the end, they reconciled.
Season 2[]
The Source[]
The Kents were visiting Clark in Metropolis and stopped by his office, where they met Perry and Lois. However, Jonathan was not in the best mood; his best friend had just died of a heart attack. Clark wanted to lift his father’s spirits while he was in town by trying to entertain him. He bought tickets for his parents to attend the inauguration of the new subway in Metropolis. Meanwhile, Viologic had set up a major plot to kill the incumbent governor for electoral purposes by crashing the train. Jonathan and Martha’s lives were put in jeopardy along with everyone else on the train. As panic spread among the passengers, a man fainted and Jonathan helped him. After Superman saved the day, Jonathan and Martha quickly befriended the man, named Al, who was originally from Kansas and had a lot in common with Jonathan. When he returned to his farm, Jonathan seemed much better and more relieved despite the loss of his best friend.
