Mayson Drake was a recurring character in the second season of the series.
She was a district attorney and love rival to Lois Lane for Clark's attention. Ironically, her attitude was the polar opposite of Lois' love for Superman. Mayson saw Superman as a flamboyant costumed vigilante and public nuisance, while viewing Clark as a upstanding, moral citizen.
History[]
Not much is known of Mayson's past except she was deputy district attorney trying to rid Metropolis from criminals.
Season 2[]
While investigating a crime made by an evil organization known as Intergang, she met Clark and became attracted to him, often asking him on dates and they even shared a kiss while she was at Clark's apartment much to Lois' annoyance.
She loved Clark, but disliked Superman even though he had valiantly saved people's lives on a regular basis as she saw him as a costumed vigilante who didn't follow official procedure.
Clark admired Mayson, but in the same way as Cat, he didn't feel the same way about her as she did for him, as his true feelings were always for Lois and her mixed feelings about both sides of his life made things complicated. (Church of Metropolis), (The Eyes Have It), (Top Copy)
One day during lunch with Clark, Mayson was about to confess her love for Clark and told him that she knew he was hiding something and whatever it was, she could handle it. However Clark was called away by a call from Lois, while Mayson sadly said after he left that she loved him.
Later after solving the case involving the framing of Jimmy Olsen and the illegal dealings of Lucky Leon, Mayson was waiting for Clark and Lois to give her a statement. After a while she got tired of waiting and decided to leave, as theirs wasn't wasn't the only the case she was working on. Mayson went to her car, opened the door and climbed inside, unaware that a bomb had been placed in the engine and it's timer had started.
As Clark and Lois were on their way to see Mayson, Clark heard the beeping of the timer with his super hearing and rushed to save her but was too late as he arrived just as the bomb went off with Mayson inside.
Clark dragged the bruised and battered Mayson out of the car and as Clark was holding her, she saw his Superman costume under his tattered clothing, finally realizing what Clark had been hiding all this time and she had been loving the same person all along. She whispered in his ear the word "Resurrection" before succumbing to her injuries. (Lucky Leon)
After Mayson's funeral, Clark and Lois decided to solve the case of Mayson's murder and the last word she had said to Clark before she died. They found out that the person responsible was a man named Stanley Gables who was a bitter former scientist at S.T.A.R. labs, seeking revenge after being infected by a mortal virus that was eating away at his body. He had developed a pill called "Resurrection" that made people look dead for few hours and then they woke up perfectly fine. He was using it on criminals and Mayson had been onto him, so he had planned her demise.
Gables was now planning to unleash a deadly virus over the whole city, but fortunately Superman with help of Lois, DEA agent Dan Scardino and Gables' former employee Albie Swinson, foiled Gables and brought him to justice. (Resurrection)
