—Myrtle planning to destroy Lois and Clark's wedding, Swear to God, This Time We're Not Kidding

Myrtle Beech, also known as The Wedding Destroyer is a villain in the series.

She was a poor misunderstood woman who lost her former intended husband and sought revenge on Lois and Clark for her imprisonment. She was determined to sabotage their wedding, but with their help, she learned the true meaning of happiness and that she could be a better person with help.

History[]

Myrtle Beech was an orphan when her parents died when she was only five and she inherited a great fortune of two hundred million dollars when she turned eighteen. Myrtle was a lonely woman who only wanted the love of a good man. She finally started a relationship with a lawyer named Roger and they later arranged to be married. Myrtle loved Roger very much and saw him as her one true love.

Unfortunately Roger fell in love with Myrtle's best friend and bridesmaid Emily Channing and they both decided to go to the church where Myrtle was waiting and tell her it was over. However on the way, Roger died in a car crash and Myrtle not knowing what really happened, was left heartbroken. She kept a locket with his picture in it to keep a happy memory of him.

Myrtle then had trouble accepting the fact that the man she loved was dead and began making scenes at her friends' weddings until she was no longer invited to anything.

She then sought counselling from Dr. Voyle Grumman, who knew about Roger's unfaithfulness, but kept it from her as he saw her situation as the perfect opportunity to experiment on emotional human behavior. The sick-minded psychiatrist manipulated Myrtle into thinking her that one chance of happiness had been ripped away and that if she couldn't be happy then no one could. Soon Myrtle began disrupting other people's weddings by doing many cruel things including letting rats loose, issuing a bomb threat, poisoning a wedding cake and sinking a boat of passengers who were on their way to a reception, whilst Grumman recorded everything that happened.

Myrtle was then discovered by top Daily Planet investigative reporters Lois Lane and Clark Kent who foiled Myrtle's latest scheme had sent her to an insane asylum.

Season 4[]

Three years later, Myrtle learnt from a newspaper that those two same reporters were going to be wed. She arranged for Grumman to send her explosive nitro fuel in nail polish bottles. The fuel worked and blew a hole in Myrtle's padded cell, setting her free.

She went straight to see Grumman and told him her plan of destroying Lois and Clark's wedding and that he would be there to record the event. They also hired sleazy news reporter Leo Nunk and his cameraman Lamont to spy on the two reporters in return for an exclusive news story.

Her first scheme was cancelling the flight tickets of Clark's parents Jonathan and Martha Kent for their journey to Metropolis and then she set fire to the chapel where Lois and Clark were due to be married. Grumman began to have doubts about Nunk's loyalty and requested that the reporter be murdered before he turned them in. Myrtle replied that she didn't like Nunk either, but the information he gave them was good. They then made a wedding ring that contained a high voltage electric charge.

Afterwards they called Nunk to meet them in an abandoned alley to discuss their next plan. Myrtle showed Nunk the ring saying that she was going to replace it with the one Lois was going to give to Clark. She asked if it was a good match, he replied yes and was then asked to slip it on his finger as his finger size was the same as Clark's.

As he did so, Nunk asked what Myrtle's next plan was and she replied that with this ring, he would die if he didn't tell her what she wanted to know. She made her point by having Grumman activate the remote control to trigger the ring's voltage. Nunk was shocked and fell to the floor. Grumman tried to use this opportunity to make notes, but Myrtle told him to stop fooling around. She asked him if she had spoken to Lois and Clark and given any information away. Nunk denied this. But Grumman assumed he was lying and absent mindedly activated the control again that finished Nunk off. Myrtle berated Nunk for this and the two escaped, unaware that Nunk's cameraman and had been hiding and had heard everything. He later reported what he had found out to Superman. Knowing the Man of Steel was onto them, Myrtle and Grumman had to act fast.

One day, Grumman hired a man to knock over Lois' mother Ellen's purse which contained Lois' wedding ring that she had just picked up from the jewellers and replace it with the high voltage ring. Myrtle had decided to make Lois the prime target of her revenge after Grumman had convinced her that a lifetime of misery was better off on Clark.

After changing into a white wedding outfit, Myrtle along with Grumman followed Lois, Clark, their friends and both their parents to the church where they had planned to have the rehearsal. Just as Clark put the deadly ring on Lois' finger, Myrtle turned on the voltage and shocked Lois until she fell to the ground.

Myrtle with Grumman, attempting to kill Lois

Myrtle then walked down the aisle followed closely behind by Grumman who was taking notes. She told everyone to step back and not move a muscle or Lois would die, making her point by shocking Lois a second time. Fearing for Lois' life, Clark made sure nobody moved.

Myrtle decide to take one last look at Lois in pain before making her escape with Grumman, enjoying the moment of the reporter's life being in the palm of her hand and told everyone that the remote control she was holding had a ten mile range so they would have to think twice before following them. It wouldn't matter if they were as strong as Superman, one push of the button and Lois would die.

Clark replied that she would probably kill Lois anyway. Myrtle answered that he didn't know fully know that and he shouldn't try and risk it. Clark told her that she needed help. Myrtle rebuffed this as the last time they tried to help her, she had spent three years in an insane asylum. Clark explained that they hadn't realised what was really wrong with her. Myrtle replied that she had lost the perfect man she had ever loved. However Clark and Lois told her that they had found a document Grumman had written whilst they were searching Grumman's office. It explained how Roger had been unfaithful to Myrtle and how Grumman had been lying to her the whole time, pushing her to do terrible things and using her as sick-minded experiment. Myrtle listened to this in stunned silence.

Finally in anger, she punched Grumman and he fell to the ground. Then she tore off her locket of Roger and flung it on the ground. Emotion and rage building up inside her, she lashed out at Lois and Clark, saying that thanks to them, she now had nothing, not a friend in this world (pointing at the now unconscious Grumman) and not even the memory of being happy. Lois replied that she now had that the truth, but she rebuffed that being alone was the real truth and then proceeded to kill Lois for good, but Clark gently tried to restrain her, saying that this Wedding day that they are celebrating was exactly how Myrtle felt when she was hoping to marry Roger and not let her rage and sorrow activate the remote control and take this special moment away from them. Clark then concluded that they would give her the proper help she needed, but she had to stop what she was doing before things got any worse.

With tears in her eyes, Myrtle gave the remote control to Clark and watched with remorse as he and the others went over to Lois and sought to give her treatment.

The police arrived and arrested both Myrtle and the disgruntled Grumman. As the police led her away to their car, Mike the Guardian angel appeared, giving Myrtle a handkerchief and told her not to worry, they would talk later. Myrtle smiled at him and when she turned away and then looked back again in where Mike was standing, he had gone. She then peacefully went into the police car and it drove away.

It is not showed what happened to her after this, but it can be assumed that she got the help she needed and finally found happiness with someone she could love.
